Vivência de Angola 2013
 Hamburg - Germany

Industriestraße 125-131, 21107 Hamburg, Alemanha

It was our second event promoting exchance of a Capoeira Angola experience. It took place in the southern hotspot quarter Wilhelmsburg.
We understand Capoeira Angola as a holistic art. Therefore, we intend not only to pass on profound knowledge in every single class but also link one to another. We think that only an overall view of the different elements of Capoeira provides a comprehension of this art.
The two main topics of Vivencia 2013, can be easily described as "old skool, true skool"
We emphasized first the significance of the bateria in the tradition of master Ananias (Sao Paulo) and second the meaning of malicía in the Capoeira environment. Both are essential patterns in Capoeira Angola.
The lecture "A bateria na tradição Paulista" was held by Johan Dimitri. It included the historical background of this unique music style and lead to more practial questions such as how to pitch the vocals. Johan and Marcelo Finco then applied this in practice in an extended rythm lesson.
"Malicía in Capoeira Angola" was the title of a lecture held by Karl Sören Michaelis at the symposium of martial arts at University of Hamburg in 2012 based on this academic lecture. He applied a participatory method, stimulating the present Capoeiristas to active knowledge about malicía.
We watched a video of a Capoeira game and discussed our different points of view. Afterwards, Marcelo lectured about malicía using methods.

To finalize the Vivencia 2013, Ralf Sandner and Marcelo conducted a prolonged movement lesson, focusing on how malicía is being used during the Capoeira game.
Naturally, the lesson was accompanied by the traditional paulista rythm performed by the participants. Here you can see some photos shot by Margaux Weiß.
Besides all that, we had exciting rodas full of energy and it was fascinating to see how all the participating Capoeiristas were applying their newly acquired knowledge about rhythm and malicía in the Capoeira.
